Has anyone in here ever had one?I had surgery in June for my endometriosis, and was told that if it didn't improve, a hyster was the next step. Well, I'm under attack again and its fairly bad. I just want some opinions.

i've heard that if at all possible, it is good to keep your ovaries and have them just take your uterus because your ovaries will continue to produce your hormones and you won't have to rely as much on hormone therapy.

hi i am scheduled on septmeber 5th for a hysterectomy but mine is being done through the vagina instead of cutting me open, and yes i am keeping my ovaries!!!after 8 weeks of continuos bleeding that is the best decision i could make, and keeping the ovaries keeps me off synthetic hormones!!

Every woman in my family, both sides has had a hysterectomy before she reached 45. My mum did keep her ovaries, but she is so happy to be done with her period. I'm still too young(teehee!) but I imagine I'm already on the same road. They have developed a new procedure though, that I feel is definately worth asking your Dr. about. They put you out with a general, and insert a cathader with a balloon on it into the uterus. They fill the balloon with water and heat it to an outrageous temp. However, this serves to scar the entire surface of the uterus and stop any kind of bleeding forever. This may not be appropriate for everyone, but for excessive bleeding( which my mum had) it is a very good answer with no cutting or bleeding and no hormone replacement. Those who've had it done say you leave the hospital the same day and have mild to bad cramps for a few days and that's it.

That is similar to something I've already had done called 'ablation'. They lasered the inside of my uterus, and I haven't bled since '98. However, endometriosis can (and in my case IS) in the abdomen. I get severe pain monthly when the endometial cells in my abd bleed into the cavity.
I ended up in the emerg last night for a shot of Toradol. This sucks.

Been there done that. Mind you I didn't have a choice. But it's not as bad as it seems. I have my days, but it's nice to not have to worry about birth control or that monthly friend. And overall, your health is much more important. Do you have children?

Yes, I have my 2 wonderful kids, 8 and 5. I was lucky that my endo only showed up AFTER I had kids. most women with it can't have them.

mine was alot different, I went in to have twin boys and, well the doc kinda screwed up. So I didn't have the stress of wondering about it. And since it was my first pregnancy, I didn't know any difference in the healing. It sucked, but you get thru it.
And as everyone will tell you, be thankful you have your children (mind you, some days I feel like shoveing those words back down their throats!!)

My best friend is being sent for tests for endo... she is only 25 years old. She has had woman problembs since puberty. I can't tell you how many times she has been rushed to emerg. This weekend a cist burst on her ovary. This is like the 5th time! They think endo is the cause of all her problems.

"The Doc kinda screwed up." ? ? ?

WHAT ! ? ! Are you saying the Dr. delivered the twins and then did a hysterectomy without permission? If so, I hope you hit the Dr. with a major malpractice suit!
