Every woman in my family, both sides has had a hysterectomy before she reached 45. My mum did keep her ovaries, but she is so happy to be done with her period. I'm still too young(teehee!) but I imagine I'm already on the same road. They have developed a new procedure though, that I feel is definately worth asking your Dr. about. They put you out with a general, and insert a cathader with a balloon on it into the uterus. They fill the balloon with water and heat it to an outrageous temp. However, this serves to scar the entire surface of the uterus and stop any kind of bleeding forever. This may not be appropriate for everyone, but for excessive bleeding( which my mum had) it is a very good answer with no cutting or bleeding and no hormone replacement. Those who've had it done say you leave the hospital the same day and have mild to bad cramps for a few days and that's it.

That is similar to something I've already had done called 'ablation'. They lasered the inside of my uterus, and I haven't bled since '98. However, endometriosis can (and in my case IS) in the abdomen. I get severe pain monthly when the endometial cells in my abd bleed into the cavity.
I ended up in the emerg last night for a shot of Toradol. This sucks.
