Best of luck. For once I would like to see a Canadian online rental system work.

Anyway, time will tell -- we are still in the startup, test everything phase.

Thanks for your question. . .and you concern!

Cheers!

Obviously, I agree. This is new territory to a great extent, so I appreciate the feedback and the accomodation if we occasionally screw up.

Cheers!

I got this e-mail today, I'm a little annoyed but this seems to be the best approach for them so I'm not complaining.
---------------

Thank you for joining Hollyweb! As you know, we are a recently launched service offering unlimited DVD rentals.

The response to our initial marketing has been tremendous. As such, our suppliers have not kept up with inventory on the more popular titles. For our most recent clients, this would mean receiving movies lower on their queue than we would like. Therefore, we will be delaying the commencement of your service by a week or two until our inventory is replenished.

Our mandate in this business was to provide top quality fulfillment. We do not want to start your membership until we can do this. We do not anticipate any further problems such as this as we have ramped up our DVD purchases significantly based on this excellent feedback.

We will advise as soon as your membership begins. Until then, please feel free to continue to build your Queue and we will ship your DVD's when our inventory fulfillment has been replenished by our suppliers to an acceptable level. Of course, you will not be charged anything until we begin your service.

Cheers!

Thanks. We do not intend to fail on fulfillment. This is why we have done this. It will be resumed shortly.

Quite simply, the response to this service has exceeded our expectations. . .now we want to make sure we exceed yours.

Cheers!

Wow. It seems like they know exactly what we want to hear, doesn't it? Do you suppose they have a source on the inside helping them out?

Not me, not me!

Stuff like this is understandable - you can never properly gauge demand when it's an untried model. I really want this to work because I hate having to drive to the video store, find parking, go looking for a movie, and "whoops!" all 3 copies are out! Grrrr.

Cyanne:

It's not a coincidence. We have studied our competitors and have watched forums such as this, so we know where the mistakes can be made. Nobody minds a delay too much. . .unless we've charged money already. This response was always our contingency plan in the event we were oversubscribed. As Costa pointed out, since this is really a new business model, it was very difficult to predict.

In any event, I must say that the questions and comments on this forum have been very helpful. We have made several changes to our site and software based on your feedback. Please continue to feed it -- good or bad.

We intend to make this work - particularly for fellow Canadians, eh.

Cheers!

Steve

CanadaPost is taking its time. The DVD's were shipping Wednesday around 5:00, thus they wouldn't have been picked-up/sorted until Thursday. I would have thought they would arrive by today, but no such luck. Has anyone received theirs yet ?

Same here....shipped last Wed still no package. If this continues the most movies I could cycle in one month is 6 (2*3) assuming it takes 5 bus. days here, five days return etc. Now, I am in Ontario and they are shipping from Alberta which is probably part of the problem. But....I would bet that a good percentage of their customer base is going to be in the east (ie. Ontario/Quebec) so maybe they should establish a kind of depot out here somewhere to increase turn around time. Or use a different shipping service, whatever is most cost effective. I think in order for this to work we need the ability to rent at least 9 movies a month to make it worth while. Just a suggestion for future consideration.....I know everthing is still new so I am willing to extend a little leeway and I do appreciate their candor with this group so far.

The question is what is the geographic situation of their clients ? If they are looking at primary rural clients that have no alternative to renting online, then it doesnt make much of a difference. However, if they are looking to also get us urban customers, then shipping out of Ontario would be great.

Relastically, I would expect them to do the simplest thing -- increase the number of movies you can have at any one time.

Steve should be floating around here soon to add his view on this
