Truthfully, I have sent for many but have not received any perfume samples for the last couple of years. Before that I remember getting a couple, but not often.

Actually the best place to get perfume samples is NOT on-line. Go to decent size department stores and drugstores and ask at the cosmetic counters. They usually have samples but only give them out to people they think will be buying. It's probably best to tell them you are looking for a new perfume and which type of fragrances (floral, woody, oriental etc.) you like.
Your local Avon rep also probably has samples.

Any ideas?

Because the freebie and contest rules usually specify one entry per address and a person could cheat by using a whole bunch of different mailboxes, I think.

if you live in a town where you dont have mail delivery to your house and only a mail box number, talk to your postmaster and find out if they will allow you to use a 'phony' mailing address instead
that is what i had to do when we first moved here...i used my house number which is completely different from the post office boxes where your mail is actually brought to
they dont really give rural people much of an option lol ..i can just imagine if you put the lot and block numbers down...

So sorry if I've placed this post in the wrong section.....

My husband submitted a poem/lyrics into Poetry.com a few weeks back....he has received a few e-mails from them since ,
This being the latest (partial) e-mail from them ;

Dear _____ ,

Several weeks ago, we informed you by mail that our editors have certified your poem "________" as a semi-finalist in our International Open Poetry Contest. I'm writing to remind you that your poem will automatically be entered into the final competition held in October 2005. As a semi-finalist, you now have an excellent chance of winning one of 104 cash or gift prizes--including the $1,000.00 First Prize. You may even win the $10,000.00 annual Grand Prize! We wish you the best of luck as you compete for these prizes in the coming weeks...

Does anyone know if this is for real??...My husband is very flattered by this but I'm just not sure.................Any advice would be muchly appreciated !!!

Thanks in advance fishies!

I am sorry to report, but Poetry.com does appear to be a scam.
They will try to get you to purchase an anthology book in which your poem will be included.
Of course they will publish MANY anthologies throughout the year, and just about everyone who enters will be included, regardless of the quality of the poem. If they decide to gift you with an award, they expect you to pay your way, hotel, and $600 for the ceremony
Here are a few links about the site, including a BBB report:

http://windpub.com/literary.scams/counting.htm

Balimore BBB

http://www.writersweekly.com/warnings/poetry.html

And this is the best one:
http://windpub.com/literary.scams/wergle.htm

I am sure your husband's poem is of quality, and his talent should not be wasted on this horrible scam. To find better outlets for publishing works, check respected poetry journals - many magazines offer reader submissions, some with remuneration.

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

They must have real prizes so I suppose he has a chance to win.

This company is pretty famous for contacting you to tell you that, "unfortunately you have not won but your poem is good and is being published in their new anthology. To buy a copy of the book containing your poem just send $$$ to ..."
Selling these books (for a fairly steep sum) is how the company makes all its money.

Wellllll so far all of their e-mails have insisted that there is no obligation in any way and have not asked for any money (u do have an option of purchasing the copy that your work is published in though)... I sure hope this is legit, my husband is VERY talented and deserves recognition.........

Thanks for ur help Dewcat !
