I agree that it sounds gross but think of all the people who still won't use tampons because they think they are gross? I myself won't use pads because I don't like the odour & the mess. At least with the cup thing the blood is contained inside you & not (sorry for this!!) smeared between your legs.
I have a friend who swears by something called "The Keeper" that is very similar to this, I have not tried it yet but when I think of the huge amount of pads & tampons going into landfill each year I have to say I'm a bit tempted?

i have used these, and it took me almost 1/2 hour to get the damn thing out! i was freaking!!! i thought i would have to go to emergency and explain what was up me! never again!

I have tried the Softcup and am presently using the Divacup (formerly known as "The Keeper").

There are pros and cons for both these alternatives to pads and tampons. You have to be totally comfortable with your body in order to use either product. The Softcup, I found, a bit more trickier to master as you must place it directly under your cervix for a good seal. The upside is that you can continue having intercourse during your period and your partner needn't be the wiser. The downside is that this product is expensive and are not reusable.

The Divacup (www.divacup.com) uses your pelvic muscles and are located lower in your body and therefore easier to position. If you calculate the cost facter with the Divacup, it's approximately $45 CAD and is guaranteed to last 10 years and is reusable ..... ladies, that works out to be $4.50 a year spent on feminine hygiene and environmentally friendly. I found that it takes approximately 3-4 mos to master the timing of emptying the cup. Another plus is that it's made of medical grade silicon
