I have had that happen, but considered it a bug - because it happened when I was trying to use a 10/50 coupon. It would not clear the $5 coupon until I had placed an order using it. Luckily, they don't call me bookhead for nothing, and I just placed a second order with the $10 coupon.

Interesting idea to use it as a strategy though...
