on the search results page, the links in the last column are missing their threadid's (and therefore not working).

edit: hmm...sometimes they're missing, and sometimes all of the results link to the same threadid. either way, it ain't kosher.

The report button is still there, a while back costa changed it from a megaphone symbol to a clickable "inappropriate post ?".

I had the same problem - I actually just came here expecting an explanation! (laugh)

So, moderator and GFL types.. anyone know what was wrong? It was saying that the server was too busy and something about a maximum of 15 something or other..?

The Bowl is on a machine with 300 other websites so it can get busy. And when it does, access it blocked to not add to the strain (and to keep a low profile in case the hosts are trying to figure out who's causing the strain ).


I couldn't get in either so we're all in the same bowl... uh, boat.

So do the other websites have their access blocked as well, like the bowl did today? Or is it just the bowl that does this? And does it matter to the hosts who is causing the strain? Like, are there too many messages here - so they'd be peeved about that? (Just trying to learn something new )

I believe that Costa has implemented several bandwidth-saving features here in the Bowl. If things start getting too congested, some features will automatically turn off - ever notice that sometimes avatars don't appear, or the search function is disabled?

I'd bet the farm that access just to this site is blocked, based upon what Costa said. This way, the hosts (hopefully) won't see excessive traffic headed into the Bowl, which would slow down any other sites hosted on the same server.

Nope, these are limits I set up myself. Everyone else's site still works, but slowly.

A few months ago my host threatened to boot me off the server for "excessive CPU use" and even though it ended up being screwed up logs on their end, I want to stay under their radar. So if they checkout what's happening when the server is overloaded, they won't gonna see my site anywhere.

I've tweaked the software to reduce the load so I'm positive it doesn't add to the overall load that much, but they will prejudge anyone running this messageboard software (vBulletin), so instead of getting into another dispute, I'd rather just duck.

I'm just full of questions :P

Okay you know how the fish with the hat and the tongue face with the hat were just recently changed..? well if you look at old msg's in like.. June for example, they've been replaced with the new guys with the hats (hehe) I thought that was cute.. but my question is.. how does that work? Did GFL make a generic "change all" type code to make this happen?

The messages only store the code (e.g. ": )" or ": p"). When messages are displayed, this code is linked to an image file on the hard drive. I just changed which image file they link to instead of adding new smilies.
