I know there've been commercials announcing this new show for months, but I just wanted to remind everyone that it starts tonight! They don't have it listed in my TV Guide, but I hear it'll be on CNN after supper. I'm so excited! I love this kind of action/mobster kinda genre. I think it will definitely top The Sopranos in the ratings. Be sure to post your reviews!

***Spoilers Below!***

Somebody told me that episode three is a must-see! It's the one where they plant the fake weapons of mass destruction in the front door of the bad guy's house while they're secretly pumping the oil out the back door. I also heard that the second season is worse than the second season of Twin Peaks - they say it's all boring shots of children slowly starving and all that. Yawn. I'm going to tape the early episodes so I can watch them again when it gets all sappy like that.

Note: This is a satirical and highly uncharacteristic response from me intended for CC -- I don't actually revel in torture.

You forgot last season!

Here's an episode list:

Pilot: Musical Chairs
Fade in to a family portrait: the Pazzi family. Arms, Extortion, Racketeering -- business is either good or merely "OK" depending on who you ask. The right hand man stages a coup, kills his boss, and becomes the boss. He kills a bunch of his friends and weeps openly while they're exucuted to leave no doubt of his ruthlessness. They dub him "Freddo".

Episode 2: Fly Swatter
Fast forward about 6 years: some snotty street gang becomes a nuissance, so he sticks some poison in their water supply and kills 5000 of them and their families just to shut them up -- they were such a pain in the ass! Yeah!

(Glad this was short because it was kind of boring. No fire, no over-the-top Hollywood pyrotechnics, no guts splattering on the camera. The people just covered their mouths (I guess they were holding in their puke), and plainly fell over and died. Those child actors were amazing though! Even the little babies were completely still -- geez, my neice is 2 and I can't get her to stop moving for 5 seconds, nevermind 5 minutes!)

Episode 3-4: Good to Great
Fast forward another 6 years (geez, at this rate this show'll be gone in 3-4 episodes! ): he gets bored killing his neighbours and insubordinate underlings and decides to grow his business (he's been reading business books). So he surprise attacks the Olio family, way outside his territory. While he's there, just for fun, he finds some people that just happen to live there and figures he might as well play some games with them to take their minds off things. A sampling:

  • Tie me to a Pole 'n See How Many Bullets it Takes to Make me Lose my Footing
This is a great TV drinking game!
  • Step on My Head 'n Yank Out My Fingernails Till I Pass Out Note to home theatre owners: I blew my goddamn centre speaker watching this game -- those banshees sure do yell loud!
  • Plug In the Power Tools 'n Gimme Some New Orifices Because this Desert Climate is Playing Havoc with my Core Temperature
Cable TV sure has come a long way! I remember when they wouldn't even show guns in music videos!

Suffice it to say, this 2-part episode was where the underground cult following started. Fan sites started popping up like gophers!

Episode 4: Deus Ex Machina
The mob boss gets a rude awakening when, out of nowhere, the Olio family calls up another family, the Pastori family, who comes to their rescue.

The next few years business declines for the Pazzis, and even though he manages to get some dough via some donations (bleeding heart sissies!) he keeps it all and uses most of it to buy new Tommy guns for his boys (those who can't hold a gun don't get squat) and build some underground cyanide factories. The cops raid him a few times but he built so many factories that they don't find them all.

The Pastori find out about the factories 'n send some messengers to the Pazzi to "discuss" the situation. For the next 35 minutes they talk, and talk, and talk. Me and my friends dropped our beers we were so sleepy! So finally talks break up (what do you expect from a couple mobsters?) and the episode ends with a whole crapload of the Pastori gearing up, getting into the back of fruit trucks on their way to take care of business. What a lame cliffhanger.

After a few beers me 'n my buds agreed that the show needed a new director. Or something. I mean, what the heck was up with that 35 minutes of blah, blah, blah, blah anyway?

Costa and Common Cents are clearly slipping off into the deep end with their satirical musings...

You know that photo-op is coming!

P.S.: I haven't posted in the "Are you angry there is going to be a war?" thread, because I'm really not angry - more sad I suppose. But perhaps this humorous approach is the most sane response...

I wasn't trying to be funny. I guess it could be seen that way, but all I was trying to do is provide a rebuttal to CC's arguements.

My point is that Saddam is a truly insane and ruthless sadist/megalomaniac and should have been taken care of 10 years ago. On that point, there is no debate IMO.

I guess the satire could be only digestable to CC and a couple others here who seem to enjoy satirical/sensationalistic posts. I was speaking in character -- I wouldn't actually trivialize the atrocities that occured.

I have deliberately been trying not to get drawn into debates more important than who should play alongside Owen Nolan on the second line. My life is brimming with incredible amounts of stressors that do not allow me the energies to muster anything more than the wimpiest replies or a diametrically opposite response such as bombastic tirades. Rationalized opinions and open dialogue just are not in the cards right now from these quarters, at least until the waters are somewhat calmer. Carry on with your satire, friends.

Sorry AZ, didn't mean to stress you out even more. You should probably avoid all the war threads as I'm sure debates will keep popping up. This time I won't need to keep the Chit Chat area a strictly "Happy Place" so there'll be probably be lots of war talk in "Intense".

I'm not particularly stressed yet, but I remember right after 9/11 I couldn't read/watch any of it. It's like some chemical in your brain makes you hypersensitive to adversity and fear. I really hate that feeling -- it seems to come back every now and then.

I've got my own little "wars" that I'm waging right now; however, these Middle East tensions are going to be (and already are) everywhere you turn. This situation is important and effects millions of people on a global scale, so I can't simply bury my head in the sand and pretend it does not exist.

It's just my hope that not too many people think they are Tom Green (political satirist? or whatever his name is) and start slinging mud all over the place because they think they are smarter, wiser or more hip than the rest of us mere sheep.

Nothing like a little world class turmoil to stir up the water in the Bowl, huh?

More news from the humour frontline...

American journalists are embedded with the combat troops.

Now there's an Orwellian word and half if I've ever seen one!

{On a more serious note: I will stop laughing and start to become freakin' angry if this show pre-empts the Academy Awards show on Sunday )

I appreciated the creativity and time that went into the satires. I think it is a valid way to express opinions that can be difficult to voice in a rational way.
So far so good, AZ. A lot of people are upset about the war but comments have been fairly reasonable to this point. I don't think things should get too heated in here. They are hot enough "out there". I don't really think there is a lot that can be said when everything is speculation at this point, anyway.
