Patience my dear... Rome wasn't built in one day

Thank you for joining the GFL team . This project is one of the most noble and hopefully efective at this date.
If you read the on UD site you'll find more details about the way the project is advancing and also about our little but tenacious team.

Feel free to post updates and also tell all your friend about this project.

Latest word from United Devices regarding the project...

"United Devices is a for profit company that runs the Cancer Research Project to a) help discover drugs suited to combat cancer, and b) demonstrate that grid computing (distributed computing) is a viable technology for organizations to consider to help solve compute-intensive problems more quickly, more accurately, and more cost effectively.

The Cancer Research Project utilizes "cutting-edge" science, which means we must try a solution, evaluate the results and make adjustments. At this particular time, we are running infinite redundancy on a particular protein to make a few final adjustments to the LigandFit application. As soon as these adjustments are finalized, which should be in about three weeks from now, we will release an enhanced version of LigandFit. Your processing time is not being wasted. It is helping us more quickly fine tune the application to produce the best results to turn over to Oxford. The present project plan calls for a minimum of all hits generated by phase 1 to be screened against the twelve proteins, we expect the project to last well into 2003. We appreciate your patience and assure you the work you are doing is legitimate and is helping to advance the project to its final stages."

Hope this answers a few more of your questions Jahnisha.

Personnaly I don't like the screen saver, or screen savers in general. My screen savers are set as a black screen and the BIOS settings to turn off the monitor after about an hour.

UD runs as a low priority process on a computer so generally you will not notice any difference if it is running. I've run high graphics rate games, CD burns, downloads, everything while the UD agent is running in the background with no effect on the primary tasks. If you just run UD as a screen saver then 1) you are not running UD as many hours a day as you could and 2) drawing and moving stuff on the screen takes away processing time from the UD agent.

Here is a bit of an update from UD.

A new protein has been placed in production.CDK-2 (1AQ1) also known as Human Cyclin Dependent Kinase 2.

This new protein has 30 ligands per workunit. Expected run time is about the same as current work. Please remember while we are shooting for an average of 20 hours on machines such as a PIII 1Ghz this does not always happen due to some differences in the work that needs to be performed.

Time outs are set to 11 days for CPU Time and 19 days for Wall clock timeout.

Thank You
Paul
