The updates work in a strange way:
1) if the bowl is too busy, we skip the rest and don't do an update
2) if it's not too busy, every time someone views a page, a random number is generated
3) if that random number is above a specific amount, then it's time to update posts
4) but first, we check when the last update was: if it was less than 33 minutes ago, no update is done
5) if it was more than 33 minutes ago then the posts are updated
So:
1) delays during the day are due to the bowl being too busy
2) since the random # is generated on every pageview and there are less pageviews at 3-5am, so there is a less of a chance that the random number will cause and update

- I know its a not the same - the delay is intended to reduce the traffic. Refreshing the forum every few minutes and having real-time conversations are what causes the strain.
- There's no point moving anything or adding a delay to "Thinking Outside the Bowl" because FREE is the forum that sucks up 60% off the server resources -- ALL THE OTHER AREAS COMBINED use less resources than FREE.
- Sure it sucks, but so does getting booted off the host and being forced to pay $300/month to host a freebie forum. I'm not made of money, and the FREE area does not bring in any money so where should the money come from? Please be realistic and realize that this is being paid for by someone else before demanding service or suggesting that other areas be delayed.
Like I said: this is temporary, so please be patient. I can't stop you from leaving for another site, but at this point there's nothing I can do and will not risk all of Goldfishlegs (i.e. I can't afford $300/month) so that you can share freebies with 0 delay.
