There is a "new" telephone scam (new here anyway). The person on the phone claims to be from Windows and they are calling about a problem with your computer.

Claim to have tried to contact you. They want you to hit the windows button and then push Fn button. This really creeped me out because I couldn't figure out how they got my telephone number. I hung up on them and then contacted Microsoft itself.

The calls are not originating from them as they do not receive your telephone number when you download any software from them. Microsoft says whoever is making these calls is trying to get you to give them access to your computer.

Just thought I would try to let people know.

No question, these are a scam. They basically are trying to get you to open your PC up to them so they can install malicious software. There is no way they could possibly be from "Windows" and have your phone number.

When I started asking even simple technical questions (more for a laugh on my side), they simply hung up on me.

Wanting what I've got. Life is good!

I was beginning to wonder if this was a city specific scam. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Just hope by talking about it we can save someone from having something expensive happen to their computer.

I enjoy getting the fake scam calls from people claiming to be with the CRA and telling me I owe money.

I like to keep them on the line by playing dumb for as long as I can.

It gives me a little bit of joy knowing that I have wasted their time and someone else won't have to put up with them.
