I decided on the vote box so it would remain anonymous. I don't expect people to "list" their party(ies).

haven't voted in many elections, two provincial and two federal (? maybe one, i'm drawing a mental blank the one in 2000 for sure, when was the one before that? summer 97? pretty sure i voted in it too, yes, now that i think about it i mailed in a ballot, okay good, i'm good now). and i voted liberal once and ndp the other times. I'm not real hardcore left leaning, i'm not sure that the ndp would be good in the majority but i think a decent government could be made up of liberal majority with ndp the opposition, and i don't figure my measly vote is going to propel the ndp to the majority, but a sprinkling of them would be nice, to drag the liberals over from the center and toward the left.

Are you talking Federally Gord? If so, in past I've voted for all the major parties, at times I've voted for the party and at times for the candidate regardless of the party. Although, come the next election, I'm somewhat stumped as to who to vote for. I'll definately be attending the forums and checking out the candidates.

DOH! I started this last night b4 I went to bed and left the window open since I wasn't sure how to make the actual text impartial (thus why it's empty). I had a voting box with all the federal parties listed but for some reason that isn't there now. I didn't even know this was posted till I just checked now. To be honest I forgot about it and just assumed it was one of my open IE windows in my taskbar

Is there a way for me to edit this so the options for the poll is there?

p.s. I decided on the vote box so it would remain anonymous. I never expected people to "list" their party(ies).

Again I say DOH!

I couldn't see any way to edit the thread and create a poll so I've asked for help. Someone will get back to you on whether it can be done or whether we start from scratch again. We could just copy our posts over to the new thread if we start from
scratch.

It can be done by merging this thread with another that has a poll. Since you can't do merges, I've taken the liberty of doing it. There's a maximum of 12 poll choices (I think). If you're having problems editing the current poll choices, let us know and we'll try to fix it. Maybe you want to replace one of the current choices with the Libertarian Party or the Marijuana Party?

Dave.

I am a supporter of rejecting your ballot - as detailed in my posting from this old thread...

I remember many people being extremely happy when Mulroney replaced Trudeau/Turner and what was the result? We were sold down the river. Now it doesn't make any difference which leader or which party is "in charge"! They're all paid by the same transnational interests and spun this way and that by the transnational media. The main objective of modern day politics is to take our minds off what is really happening in the world and/or to make us feel crummy about our own country, so it can be bought up for a nickel on the dollar. The best solution imho is to reject your ballot* and expose the democratic process for the sham it is.

(*Rejecting your ballot means registering to vote and going to the polling station on election day and officially rejecting your ballot - it doesn't mean sitting home and not participating - incompetent polling clerks can sometimes make this valid procedure very difficult - but it is worthwhile as rejected ballots are recorded as a separate category - when a majority of voters exercise this option the house of cards will collapse and we will have our country back. )

Here is an example from a recent federal by-election to show how rejected ballots are counted as part of the total ballots cast. Note: Rejected ballots beat two of the candidates in this riding.

Uhhh... not much... just voters who are aware of what they are really voting for and politicians who are truly representing the needs and wishes of their constituents.

Now I'm just curious, the Canadian Alliance is very popular out west, but are they gaining popularity in the east? (Ugghh, other than Stockwell day.) I'm surprised at this point, that in the bowl, they've got so many votes, unless its westerners that are voting in the poll so far.

I voted for the Alliance party and I live in Ontario. I came across a blind poll a few years ago that asked where you personally stood on the issues and to my utter amazement most of my answers corresponded with where the Alliance stood. I had been a long time Conservative up until that point. I guess I also feel that it is time for a change.

I'm not sure to be honest. From all I've heard they've had a tough time breaking the bubble in the east except for a few ridings around the Ottawa area. There have always been discussion on which way the bowl leans - perhaps it does lean right if they are getting so many votes here but not electing members from across the entire country. Perhaps easterner's who would vote for them visit here often or perhaps there is a large percentage of Westerner's who visit the bowl.

Now it's not the Alliance vote that surprises me it's that the Liberals and PC's are doing so poorly - especially when the PC's are on their biggest up turn in years (with the byelection win and the leadership race underway) and with the Liberals and their former massive win in the last election. People seem to like the left of centre Chretien but I wonder if that will carry over to the right of centre Martain?

Oh my Janet - there's no need to "admit" or justify you vote - it's your vote. I must admit that though near my riding I am unaware of who ran for the CA in the Niagara Falls riding.

May I ask what aspects of his/her platform appealed to you and what would be necessary for you to entertain a Liberal or NDP vote (to pick to other side of the political spectrum) or is it 100% idelogical thus there can be no swaying?

Just wondering/musing btw
