Actually, a part of the prize was being entered into a draw to win 4 VIP passes to the awards themselves, as well as makeovers, and a $500 prizepack of merchandise... the winner will be announced Friday... so fingers crossed!

The Soda Pop Tour was last night in Halifax. I had won 2 tickets and gave them to my 13 year old son and a friend. So happy for you! What a fantastic win, and yes fantastic for the school budget this year.

A couple of things:

1. A while ago I won tickets to The Girl Who Played with Fire - an awesome movie ticket win, right? Ah no. The tickets arrived 2 weeks after the movie was already in theatre and then the movie was not playing at any theatre in my community. Sometimes it pays to complain because I am now receiving a copy of the book instead.

the site is malfunctioning - everyone has won. and it's in the rules that if there is some issue with the site, that they are off the hook. i'm bummed too (we won 50 airmiles AND a $25 visa card.)

i'm sure they can't honour the prizes, they've issued thousands.

It states after you answer the questions and are redeeming your points that "everyone is a winner". So obviously some will win prizes and others will just (win) receive an entry into the draw for the tv.

I am really hoping I am able to go...accommodation, etc are not included and it would be an overnight trip for me.

We'll see. I may actually sell them as money is pretty tight after losing my job 2 weeks ago. I saw on the website that tickets for this game sold out in 32 hours so it probably wouldn't be too hard to find a buyer.

why couldn't they just use the services of a local designer in your area,and where they sell CIL Paint couldn't they recommend a local paint crew?or if they can't fufill their end of the prize ..give you a cash equivalnt and be done with it!You could send them before and after pictures of your home and how happy you are with the paint!...hope it all works out for you

Most of the larger prizes I have won over the years probably average about 4 months to receive. The prizes you want the soonest tend to take the longest. Patience is a big part of contesting. Good luck, but it sounds like they will be taking a while before the fulfillment!

You can play hardball and complain to the Competition Bureau of Canada the agency that monitors contests in Canada as it is frowned upon to advertise a contest then offer considerably less than what was advertised.

That being said it seems early days for that. There are other posssibilities in terms of being patient, offerring the solution of local designer,etc.

Yes, I understand she has been waiting two months and nine days (July 25 to Oct 4).

However... I'm just trying to point out that there are reasons to be patient (not just this person or prize specifically, but in general.) OBVIOUSLY we all get excited (I know I do) and no-one likes waiting, but it helps if you think about things from the other side....

For instance, this prize is the following:

"$5000 home makeover CIL Express Yourself contest!!
It includes a color consultation, paints, paint crew and $1350 in cash!"

Now, what is the reason CIL is having this contest? To promote themselves. So, they are going to do these things in order. (1) Schedule the consultation before any painting gets done. (2) They are going to want the consultation to be with someone familiar/(trained) in their product, and that person is probably a designer with a full time job who needs to find a spot in their schedule. Yes, they probably have several to choose from, but it's not like professionals have a ton of free time and they need to have time to get to the location. (3) CIL probably would like to take some photos for their purposes and PR. That's why they'd like to give the money in person and why they'd like the job done well.

So, all I'm saying is we should all be thankful that companies are willing to run contests at all, which we all benefit from, and let's remember they all have jobs to do, just like us.

Patience is a virtue, right?

Well it was the end of July which was the week before a long weekend.

Plus promo. people do take holidays so I expect no one really got assigned to it until after the long weekend in September.

In my view they have only had a few weeks to organize it if you discount long weekends and holidays..

But the winner could always approach the competition bureau and see what their feed back would be about the wait time.

I am getting impatient mostly because its been nearly 3 months now, and I would have thought that they would have had this scenario sorted out before even having this contest. They have asked me if I know of any designers or painters around my city (a major Canadian city too, not a small one wit no resources!). I gave a couple of suggestions, but really, should I be the one doing all the legwork here? Don't they have a pool of retailers they can choose from?
They have been telling me for weeks now that the cheque is in the mail for the cash prize portion of it, then last week, they tell me that they would rather present it to me in person and take some before photos of my home. This is fine with me, but its just taking so darn long and seems so unorganized.
I guess when you aren't a paying customer, you aren't a #1 priority.
My mother always said that you catch more bees with honey than you do vinegar, so I am really trying to be nice and understanding throughout this process.
Ill keep you all updated! :-)

Not cool, not cool at all. And you have every right to be annoyed. If anything, I'd be weary. That just sounds like an absolute gong show with them!

The cheque in the mail thing is not classy or truthful..

Asking you about the designer..honestly wouldn't it be better for you to have imput in who you would like in your home making recommendations.

Our daughter won a spa package from teletoon a couple of years ago. There was bit of chasing back and forth. When they finally said they did not know of a spa I suggested several I knew of and they were quite receptive to going with that even though technically they were to arrange it..

I often think with trip wins they should give people a certain amount for hotel costs and then let you work out where you will stay. I have had trips wins staying in very nice hotels but without breakfast or too many amenities and I know for the price that has been paid I could have found a comparable place with breakfast..This is especially a concern when there is no spending money for food/entertainment.

sounds like you are getting the runaround! I would tell them that you would like this settled after such a long time of waiting or you wish a name of someone higher up, a supervisor, yes..even the CEO of the company.. who put the contest on ..that you would like to talk to that person to get things moving and straightened out! this should make them move on it! sometimes it is the promo marketing company who picks the winner and 'fluffs' around..what i would so is go to the actual company who gave the cash flow to the marketing company to monitor and disperse this contest prize..you will get results then..just do it in a firm but nice manner..be thankful for the win..say so and then just say..the problems and the wait you have endured to get this prize is frustrating etc etc..! trust me..you will get results..if you need more help..feel free to email me and i can surely help you go forward with this!

i am glad to hear that! enjoy your prize once you get it eh..it is a shame that some of us have to fight to get our prizes...i got one phone call with no message 7 months ago! when i called the ph # on my caller id screen..no one there knew what i was talking about or who to put me through! so i gave up..nowhere to go after that..as this was a huge company..actually the BC lottery corp. so then 2 wks ago...i get a phone call..that is 7 MONTHS LATER!! from this same individual who called me way back then and did not have the reasonable intelligence to leave me her name and phone # to get back to her! and guess what..I had won a $2000 prize! thank heaven she called me back..or i would have lost out! basically everyone got this message, there is quite a lot of posts on red flag deals about it, people have called the 3rd party firm, emailed and to goodyear, hopefully they will get it straightened out and give out the prizes as they should it seems to be a big mix up.. go on redflag and get the adress and email them too! that's the only way they will realize they are wrong, my sister in law and i live in the same building, but different floors in a duplex and we were both disqualified even though we have separate homes.

I never got the email and I entered it. i didn't win an instant prize tho. Just ballots each week.

I got this too...emailed back a complaint as I did follow rules..no response. I think they made a huge error awarding all those prizes in the beginning and are trying to get out of fulfilling them...we'll see. too bad, reputable company...i thought

Just ignoring everyone's emails is not proffessional and/or mature, responsible way to run a company or contest. They should of at least sent a mass form letter, acknowledging us and stating that they are looking into the matter. Putting their heads in the sand and hoping we will go away is very childish on their part.

I too was disqualified even though I too had entries into conest and only entered once (I live alone) I got this reply

add another 1000 to that for today......we are expected to abide by the rules......therefore i expect the people that get paid to put on a contest to abide by the rules also.....i stand up for my principles and ethics

This contest originally stated that prizes would be shipped 2-3 weeks after being won. They changed this rule part way through the contest. That is not good policy to me, changing rules part way through.....made me suspicious something was up with this contest from the start. I also have to wonder why Walter lied throughout the contest stating everyone would recieve their prize. Why did they wait till the contest was over and then DQ people they thought had " cheated." Why not DQ them right away, so that the prizes could go back into the pool. They said they DQ'd people to make a level playing field. How is the playing field level if you wait till the contest has expired? Since 95 per cent of people were DQ'd, and of the 5 per cent left, 2-3 per cent of them just won ballot entries, what was going to happen to all the prizes? Are they already wrapped and waiting to go under the Xmas trees of the Martiz employees? The fishy, fishy, smelly, way this contest was run makes me wonder?? Did they purposely flood all the wins on the first day, trying to temp people into breaking the one per household rule, which would be human nature. Was this whole scheme planned out before the contest even started I sure would like a straight answer to where all the prizes were going to go, till people like bustersmom, and WandaJean, and so many others, stood up for her RIGHTS under Canadian Law. The way I see it, when this contest ended they planned to give out 1-3 per cent of the listed prizes. Where, who, did Martiz plan to do with the rest of the 97-99 per cent of the prizes Was this a scam to just pocket the money from Good Year that they gave them to purchase the prizes?? I truly believe this was some sort of programming error - just like all the wins at the beginning was probably not really supposed to happen.

the programming for these types of things isn't that easy (my husband is a programmer) and if there was a glitch and the letters were sent out automatically, it could happen quite easily. Obviously they were inundated with letters (which they should have been - I'm glad people took the time to write to protest their disqualifications that weren't deserved) when that happened and replying to each one was impossible. It would also have take a little time for their programmers (almost assuredly off site and just contracters) to figure out what happened.

At this point, they say they are trying to fix it, let's see what happens before we further condemn them.

People sometimes forget that contests are being run just by humans with a lot of stuff to do and if they are too much of a hassle, the company won't bother doing it again.

Just wanted to get back here today and let you know that we have now reviewed all particpants' registration(s) and will be communicating with all of you today (via e-mail) with the details of your registration. As mentioned yesterday, all first entries from individual households will be honoured.

Because of this review, we have had to postpone the draw for the Grand Prize. The draw will occur tomorrow: Friday, October 22. All winners will be notified by telephone on Monday, October 25. If you go on frugal you'll find old posts of hers where she is angry at receiving cheaters letters for the nescafe mike holmes contest (dont know if you remember that one was a couple of years ago) She was upset at the time at her and her family not getting their 300 ! coupons (out of 7000 available coupons). She later backtracked and said it was 7 lol.

I lurk here at this site occasionally, work hard and enter contest only when I can so don't participate much in forums. I'm glad you're all able to recognize this person for what they are.
Honestly just sick of entering and entering contest and not winning only to see such GREED amongst some contestors. It is because of people like 'daydreamer" that less companies are holding contests and its getting harder for honest folk to win.

Now i would like to say thank you to all the companies who put on these contests, even though some are not always perfect, I do appreciate the chance to play and to win. There seems to be a lot of accusations and resentments flying here. Regardless of what anyone did, the contest is fixed and the majority of people are happy with the results.

If someone did send their 1000 or whatever emails, they did and there is nothing anyone else could do about their action.

It's a contest..period. Calling people names and making accusations about people does not do anything in regards to contesting.

IF the person who did that wanted to do that they did .

I dont get why it bothers so many others what someone does...it's a contest site..for heavens sake,and it's a contest.

People like her are a black mark on contesting, she and the very small percentage of contestors who behave like her are the reason many companies decide to stop holding contests. Their excessive greed ruins it for the rest of us. I'm sure more and more contests will be requiring a PIN for entry to stop this. I do think contest companies should require proof of ID/address before you receive your prize, would ensure contest are kept honest.

I do understand where you were coming from with having a problem with excessive emails etc.

However "outing" someone on a contest board, using their real identity is not fair play. With all the identity theft, etc on the internet, and giving someones real name, causes a chance for them to be hurt physically.

What if someone read that and was angry as you were and lived close by the person whose name was "outed" they could act on their anger .

It's just not good contesting or good board etiquette to do something like that.

I"m sure that you could have put all their details on here, but would that have been a nice thing to do?? I dont think so and it was good you had a conscience and decided not to. That being said.. isn't it enough already.

You know, I love this Forum, and love this Group.
But the drama is getting to be a bit much in this particular thread.
I want to come in here to read about all our WINS!
Not this crazy fighting, and now someone coming in and accusing people of cheating on contests.
Please, can we get back to having fun - and can we start removing some of these people, or at least send warnings out to the people causing the drama.
It is contesting...it is FUN! It should not be causing arguments and headaches.

The huge box with my new coat in it was delivered by surprise from UPS today!

It's been awhile since I won anything, so hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for me!!!

Not to burst anyone's bubble...but EVERYONE wins a $10 gift card. Beyond the rack is a US-based sales club that sells designer goods. Apparently you can sometimes get a good price on selected designer goods but reviews on shipping are really bad (expensive and takes a couple of months)

No Dewcat! I order from Beyond the Rack often! They are Canadian based in Montreal. I've been very happy with what I've received from them. They have excellent sales ,mostly clothing aimed at younger peoplle but also housewares.I've bought several pairs of Not Your Daughters Jeans from them(love them) My only compaint with them would be that they take a long time to ship. Otherwise, the quality of all of the things that I've received has been excellent. It's designer stuff. At the end of the month they usuall have a "blowout" then you can get even better deals.

You have to be a member to look at the site but memberships is free. The $10 people are winning would basically cover the shipping ($11) of whatever they order so it's worth something I think.

Its not that bad - sour grapes from some people like any shopping experience. I have ordered twice - $12 shipping each time (once a designer purse, once Doc Marten boots) but does take 3 or 4 weeks since they have to order from their supplier and then re ship to you.

Glad you had such good experiences. I was just quoting from reviews I have read since I'm not really into fashion. My point really was that this wasn't actually a "win", since everyone gets it, more of a "giveaway promotion" to get people to shop at their site. But, it's great if you are going to be shopping from them anyway.
